While there are plenty of after-hours activities to take part on in Bangkok, the next level up for those of us who appreciate our surroundings and ambiance (in addition to getting a little dressed up) are the rooftop bars. Though not all of them may be high up to enjoy city and river views, they’re great places to catch up, meet friends and take overseas visitors to. While Bangkok has no shortage of such, with many to choose from, we’ve created a short definitive list of some of our favourite ones.

Octave Bar at the Marriott 57 Sukhumvit

Located on the 57th floor of the property, Octave tops the list because of its more intimate and quiet vibe. With a 3 floor 360 degree view venue, there are plenty of seats and spaces to pick from, and as it is a little off the tourist path, it doesn’t get as busy as some of the others. Whilst it doesn’t get those river views, looking over the city skyline and skyscrapers as the sun is setting is nothing to complain about!

Vertigo Grill and Moon Bar at The Banyan Tree

Topping the list for many is the Vertigo Grill and Moon Bar at The Banyan Tree. With the restaurant on one side and the bar on the other side of this 61st floor venue, one can comfortably enjoy their meal and drinks while gazing at the beautifully picturesque views over the river and city. Easily one of my favourite places to bring visiting friends to get a feel for the city in its entirety and all it has to offer.

Three Sixty at The Millennium Hilton Bangkok

Right on the river, The Millennium Hilton’s Three Sixty sky bar has easily some of the best views in Bangkok. While it is one of nicest rooftop bars around, the Hilton name seems to intimidate people price wise, hence making it one of the quieter bars (we aren’t complaining)! As the name suggests, the rooftop bar has 360 views from what looks like a flying saucer on top of the building, in addition to this there is a large open air space with sofa like seats giving a very ‘loungey’ and laid back yet sophisticated vibe.

Park Society at the Sofitel So

Similarly to Octave Bar, the Park Society sky bar and restaurant does not share river views, instead overlooking the lakes, flora and greenery of Lumpini Park.  With a very romantic and intimate ambience, it’s a great serene date night spot as you watch the sun go down over the park and the city, and the skyline light up.

Sky Bar at the Dome at Lebua

Easily the most well-known rooftop bar in Bangkok thanks to The Hangover movie series, don’t expect to be able to show up and find a seat as it is often packed and buzzing with people near and far. Whilst its views of the winding river and city do not disappoint from the 63rd floor, and hence why it still ranks so high in our eyes, there is no chance at escaping the hustle and bustle of the city even from so high up. Nevertheless, if you’re into a more fast paced and bustling scene then this is definitely the place to check out.

The Speakeasy at The Hotel Muse

What The Speakeasy lacks in the view department it makes up for in every other one. Nevertheless, being situated on not as high of a floor makes it a little gem in the Bangkok skyline. With a uniquely 1920s décor and atmosphere, it has a much more jazzy and retro feel, complimented by a number of lovely finishing touches in the menu itself. A very fun and different experience from the rest, it’s the perfect spot for a night with friends and perfect for the ladies.

The Attitude Bar at the AVANI Riverside Bangkok

A much newer bar, the Attitude Bar at the AVANI has wonderful character and modern touch. Also located on the river, you get those to-die-for views of city life, Asiatique’s ferris wheel and all the ferries up and down the river. While it is ‘open air’, the ceiling above means even in the rain you’re able to enjoy the Bangkok skyline whilst nibbling and sipping away. While it is new, it is definitely worth checking out!
